Spotify asked music fans which songs they most commonly hear people singing incorrectly and compiled a chart that features a mix of classic and current tracks. According to those surveyed, The Clash knew how to ‘rock the cat box’ while TLC pleaded ‘don’t go Jason waterfalls’. Spotify’s Top 10 Misquoted Song Lyrics:
5% of Americans claim they never get lyrics wrong, with almost half (47%) confessing they find it a bit embarrassing to get caught singing the incorrect words.
Findings also revealed that Americans are passionate about getting the words right with 78% saying they have had arguments with friends, family or colleagues over incorrect lyrics. Various methods of correcting a friend getting words wrong have been adopted with everything from singing louder than them with the right words (48%), sending someone a link to a lyrics website (22%) and even some that resort to changing the track that is playing (5%).
